Elements and Compounds Lesson Plan
Learning Objective
Students will be able to distinguish between elements and compounds and create a Brush Ninja animated gif that illustrates the difference between the two.
Materials
- Computer or tablet with internet access
- Brush Ninja animated gif maker
- Paper and pencils for note-taking and sketching
Procedure
- Begin by defining elements and compounds. Provide examples of each and explain how they differ.
- Show students how to use Brush Ninja by creating a simple animation together.
- Instruct students to create an animated gif that illustrates the difference between an element and a compound. They can use characters, objects, or symbols to represent each one.
- Allow time for students to work on their animations individually or in pairs.
- When finished, have students share their animations with the class, explaining what they created and how it represents either an element or a compound.
Assessment
Assess student understanding of elements and compounds through observation of their completed animations as well as any accompanying explanations provided during the sharing portion of the lesson.
Extension
For advanced learners, challenge them to create multiple gifs that illustrate different chemical reactions involving elements and/or compounds. Alternatively, have them research real-life examples of elements and compounds found in everyday items such as food, clothing, or household products.
