Sound Waves and Frequency Lesson Plan
Learning Objective
Students will be able to understand the concept of sound waves and frequency by creating animated gifs using Brush Ninja.
Materials
- Computers or tablets with internet access
- Brush Ninja website
Procedure
- Introduce the topic of sound waves and frequency, explaining how sound travels in waves and how frequency determines the pitch of a sound.
- Have students explore the Brush Ninja website, familiarizing themselves with its features.
- Demonstrate how to create an animated gif on Brush Ninja by showing students how to draw a simple object that moves across the screen.
- Ask students to use their understanding of sound waves and frequency to create their own animated gifs that depict a sound wave moving across the screen.
- Encourage students to experiment with different colors, shapes, and movements to make their gifs more interesting.
- Once students have created their gifs, have them share with the class and explain how it relates to sound waves and frequency.
Assessment
Assess student understanding through observation during creation process and through discussion during sharing time.
Extension
For an extension activity, have students research different types of musical instruments or natural sounds (such as bird songs) that produce different frequencies. They can then create additional animated gifs representing these sounds using Brush Ninja.
