Grammar and Syntax: Animating Sentence Structure with Brush Ninja Lesson Plan
Learning Objective
Students will be able to identify basic sentence structure components and create animated gifs using Brush Ninja in order to reinforce their understanding of grammar and syntax.
Materials
- Computers or tablets with internet access
- Projector or interactive board (optional)
- Pencils and paper for sketching ideas
- Brush Ninja website
- Sentence structure examples (simple, compound, complex)
Procedure
- Introduce the concept of sentence structure by providing examples of simple, compound, and complex sentences.
- Show students how to use Brush Ninja by creating a simple animated gif that features a sentence with subject-predicate-object structure.
- Have students work in pairs to create an animated gif that features a simple sentence with subject-predicate-object structure.
- Students will work individually on creating an animated gif featuring either a compound or complex sentence.
Assessment
Assessment will be based on the following criteria:
- Correct identification of sentence structure components within the animated gif
- Animation is clear and easy to follow
- Creativity in presenting the sentence
Extension
Students who finish early can experiment with adding sound effects to their animations. They can also share their creations with classmates and provide constructive feedback for improvement.
Additionally, students can use Brush Ninja outside of class for personal creative projects or homework assignments related to language arts concepts such as figurative language or literary devices.
