Basic Statistics and Probability Lesson Plan
Learning Objective
Students will learn basic statistical concepts such as data collection, representation, and analysis. They will also gain an understanding of probability through the use of animated gif maker, Brush Ninja.
Materials
- Access to a computer or tablet with internet access
- Brush Ninja website
- Worksheet for data collection and analysis
Procedure
- Start by introducing students to the concept of statistics. Explain what it means and why it is important.
- Discuss different ways data can be collected such as surveys, observations, and experiments.
- Demonstrate how to use Brush Ninja to create simple animations that represent data.
- Give each student a worksheet that contains a set of questions about their favorite colors or foods etc., ask them to collect data from their peers by asking these questions.
- Students then use this data to create an animated gif using Brush Ninja that represents the collected information.
- Instruct students on how to analyze their animation and interpret the results in terms of probability.
- Discuss with students how data can be presented in different ways, including tables, charts, graphs etc.
Assessment
Assess studentβs knowledge on statistical concepts through formative assessment during class activities.
Extension
Encourage students to explore other applications of statistics in everyday life such as sports scores or weather forecasts. Ask them to create more complex animations using Brush Ninja that reflect these real-life situations.

Examples of Brush Ninja in Education
DES 4th graders in Computer Science learning how to make a Gif (not the peanut butter! π) using Brush Ninja. They picked it up pretty quick since it is not too much different from filming in stop-motion which they did last year in 3rd grade.
Look at this wonderful creativity from Room 9, who loved using Brush Ninja today!! Mrs Ross was so impressed, she just had to share!!
A big shoutout to M. Andrade for coming in (during his prep!) to show my students how to create GIFs on Brush Ninja! Hereβs his sweet little example he created with them. @bltsenior
In 4th grade we put our digital art skills to the test today. We did a fun warm up with @GoogleForEdu Quick Draw and tested our gif making skills with Brush Ninja!
Thanks to @CrosbyMiddle for supplying us with a Creativity A-Z resource. Sβ and I have been learning a new one each week. This week http://brush.ninja a great free site.
Primary 7 have been using βBrush Ninjaβ to create animated gifs. Fantastic results from their first attempts!
