Using variables in your drawings opens up a whole new world of possibilities. You can now assign values to variables and manipulate them using math commands. This means you can make your more drawings dynamic by incorporating calculations into your code!
But that’s not all! Another handy addition is the ability to access the loopCount
from repeat commands. With this feature, you can see how many times a particular section of code loops, and use that value as a variable to make even more interesting images.
To help you get started with these awesome new features, I have also added some fresh code examples showcasing how they can be used effectively. These examples will provide you with inspiration and guidance as you explore the creative potential of Code Ninja Variables.
And there’s one more thing - I heard your requests, and I’m happy to announce that I have also included an arc command in this update! Drawing curves has never been easier. Whether it’s creating smooth lines or intricate arcs, this new command will give your drawings a whole new level of sophistication.
For detailed information on how to unleash the power of Code Ninja Variables and make the most out of this exciting update, be sure to check out our comprehensive documentation available on our website.

One of the highlights of the lesson plans is their adaptability. I understand that every learning environment is unique, and the lessons can be easily customized to suit your requirements.
The intention behind the lesson plans is to provide educators with a comprehensive resource that can be used in a variety of ways. Whether you’re looking for a complete lesson plan or a single activity, our collection has something for everyone.
I hope to keep adding to the lesson plans, with additional subjects, and plans for the other Brush Ninja apps. If you have any suggestions for lesson plans, or feedback on the ones we have, then please get in touch.
Well, today I am happy to announce that I now have video export ready and released in Beta!
The process is actually pretty simple. Open the export menu and select the Export as video option.
The conversion process will play your animation in the background, and record it as it plays. This means the export may take a while if you have made a long animation.
Once the export is complete you will be able to download the video as a WebM file. This is a video format that is supported by most modern browsers. If you want to convert it to another format then I also have a free WebM to MP4 convertor.
Currently this process is in Beta. This means that the feature is not 100% complete. I am still working on it, and I would love to hear your feedback. In particular, if it works, or if there are any problems. Hopefully it all works great but I will continue tweaking it based on your feedback.
This feature is only available to Brush Ninja Members. If you are not a member then you can join here.
By offering video export exclusively to our members, I hope to ensure a high-quality experience for all users. As a small independent platform, your support as a member is crucial in sustaining and expanding the Brush Ninja community. By subscribing to a membership, you contribute to the ongoing development of new features, and the availability of free tools and resources to a wider audience. Your membership not only enables your own creative growth but also helps us foster a vibrant and supportive community of artists and educators.
Besides making sure the video export works well I want to add more new sound effects. Since the video export supports audio I want to make sure there are plenty of sounds to choose from. To add to this, I also plan to add a feature for members to upload their own sound and music. This will open up even more creative possibilities.
]]>This glossary is a comprehensive guide to the key terms and definitions used in animation, from “anticipation” to “z-depth”.
In the following sections, I’ll take a closer look at what the new animation glossary is, how it was created, and how it can benefit animators in their work. So whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out in the world of animation, read on to discover why this glossary is an essential tool in your toolkit.
So what exactly is an animation glossary? Simply put, it’s a list of all the terms and concepts that are commonly used in animation. Whether you’re working on a hand-drawn masterpiece or creating something entirely digital, having a good grasp of these terms is essential if you want to create animations that really pop.
But not all animation glossaries are created equal - which is where the Brush Ninja Animation Glossary comes in. This brand new resource has been designed with everyone in mind, making it as easy as possible to understand even some of the most complex terminology.
Some examples of terms that you’ll find included in this glossary include principles of animation, tweening, rigging, and more. Plus, each term comes complete with its own definition so there’s no need to go hunting for explanations elsewhere!
In short: whether you’re just starting out with your very first animated project or looking to expand your existing knowledge base, the Brush Ninja Animation Glossary is sure to come in handy time and time again.
As an animator myself, I can attest to just how valuable a resource like the Brush Ninja Animation Glossary can be. But what are some specific ways that teachers and students alike can put this glossary to use?
For educators, one great option is to incorporate terms from the glossary into lesson plans or assignments. For example, you might ask students to create their own animations using keyframes - then have them take a quiz on terminology once they’re finished.
Students may find it helpful to refer back to the Animation Glossary as they work on projects of their own. Rather than getting stuck trying to figure out what certain terms mean (or spending hours searching for explanations online!), they’ll be able to quickly look up any unfamiliar concepts from the Brush Ninja website.
Of course, these are just two examples - there are plenty of other creative approaches that teachers and students could take when it comes to incorporating this glossary into their learning experience!
With its comprehensive list of animation terminology (including definitions!), the Animation Glossary is sure to be a great asset whether you’re new to animating or have been doing it for years. Plus, since it’s available right within Brush Ninja itself, there’s no need to go searching around online for answers!
So if you’re ready to take your animations to the next level (or just want a better understanding of what all those terms mean), be sure to check out Brush Ninja’s Animation Glossary today. And as always, happy animating!
]]>I’ve been obsessed with Nintendo since my childhood, it was once my goal to work for them. That’s not looking likely now so I’m going to pay tribute to them insted.
It’s the first time I have made something like this so the code is quite messy, but it’s all there as an example for everyone to use and customize. Just press load, then search for the Mario image.
To draw this I used the following thought processes.
Making the animation was fun but very last minute since I only thought of creating it a couple of hours ago. So it isn’t perfect. I planned what I would draw but I didn’t spend any time planning the animation so the process was a bit haphazard, but I think it turned out quite nicely!
The actual animating process took about 45 minutes.
If you enjoy watching this sort of video then give the video a thumbs up and comment and I’ll have a go at making some more!
There’s currently 2 video tutorials - but I hope to add new ones semi-regularly.
Let me know if there’s anything else you would like to see me make videos about.
]]>I’ve thought about adding simple games to Brush Ninja for a while, and this is the first. It’s Typing Ninja, a simple game to help improve your typing speed and accuracy.
This is a first version, I’d like to add larger words, but it’s taking a while. For the word lists I found some lists online, but I am now going through the lists manually and checking them all. The shorter words have shorter lists. For example, there’s 493 3 letter words, and 1918 4 letter words. I still need to go through the 5 letter word list which has 3565 words, and the 6 letter word list that has 5129 words.
Anyway - I will add those eventually, and maybe a few other smaller features. Plus I’d like to add more little games, in particular around Maths and Geography.
]]>There has always been a lot of people asking for sound and music to be added to Brush Ninja and previously I have said no. Brush Ninja exports files as animated gifs and these don’t support sound/ music so I can’t export them. However I have recently had a number of people suggest that the sound effects don’t need to be exported. Just being able to add and play them is enough.
I always knew this would be a fun feature and, after giving this some thought, I decided to add sound effects to Brush Ninja.
I know that there will now be people asking for animations to be exported with sound so they can be played on Youtube, and currently this isn’t possible. I hope that one day I can work out how to do this - cos it would also be a very cool feature.
Currently the selection of sounds is quite small. I plan to continue to add to this over time. I hope to make the collection a lot larger. I am also thinking about adding music to Brush Ninja but this will have to come later as well.
For the time being I hope that the sound effects added help to make your animations that little bit more fun!
]]>Firstly - I added a bunch of new photo layouts. I started by adding some more free ones, but after I also added a bunch exclusively for members. This is in addition to the other premium features across the site.
I also added some more corner styles, including one that turns the photos into circles on some layouts.
Finally I added more background colours - in fact they are actually gradients using multiple colours - for some more colourful photos.
